All summer, I’ve had one student who refused to write ‘manpower’ when referring to his employees in ALL of his related class research papers, and would write, instead, ‘man power.’
He has female employees.

There’s a beer for folks like that, too. Who knew? Source: http://www.ratebeer.com
He got irate at me in a class discussion one week when I pointed out what ‘manpower’ means and how when he used ‘man power’, his female staff may feel ostracized.
He said, “I know my female employees. They don’t care how I use that word around they office. They know what I mean.”
Yeah, buddy. They know what you mean.
Here’s to my two-week teaching break!
